2025.11.12_A short check-in about life, comedy, documenting, and producing.

I have been working hard and trying to do my best at work, and life. Sometimes it's hard to balance everything in the world that is going on and what I hoped I would be doing right now. Don't get me wrong, I know now how hard it is to become a comedian. I know how much work it takes and I know that if I want to be a great comedian, I can't be a great producer. If I want to be a great producer I can't necessarily be a great documentarian. As Ron Swanson would say "Don't half ass two things, whole ass one thing." I get bored easily so I get to bounce around in those worlds and stay amused. I also work full time and I take my job very seriously. So, perhaps I will never be a famous touring comedian and maybe my McMinnville productions won't be a national success. But, I am not giving up. I want success like anyone else but I also want to see the scene thrive for everyone who wants to tell a joke. I think that is why I like producing and teaching by example. I see the talent, I see the potential, and I think I can help raise the tide a little higher. I believe I have had an influence and in ten years I hope someone can look back and say that the scene and the world are a little better place because of my impact. I am not perfect but I can be an example to others.

Photos are the postcard and window poster I made for the Showcase Showdown on 12.13.2025. I am super-stoked about the lineup. Gonna be lit! And filmed.

So my next show gives me some worry. The Winners' Showcase Showdown is a higher value and it takes more value to make. The show production and value is going to be lit. I am creating and growing the market for these types of high-value comedy events. I curate comedians based on watching a lot of comedy. I pay well and they take this serious, this is what they do. This is work rewarded. I bring a crowd, I market and create views online, and I think it is noticed in the market when I put someone on the billing. So I think I know what I'm doing but I will make mistakes. I was all over the map to launch those tickets. Big fumble but I think I fixed it.

Now, this show is going to have a really good food menu, it is as if James Beard meets the Comedy Cellar but this is the Stillwater in McMinnville, OR with a population of 35K. Ca-razy cool. We will have great wine from Ricochet, beers from Oregon, and I believe a prepared cocktail or two. It felt good to see ticket sales are picking up when I left work tonight.

People are getting it, this is going to be a special night out.

Thanks for reading. Be safe and get creative.
